I read something recently that said there's really no such thing as writer's block, that it's actually more of a "creative slowdown" with a variety of causes and solutions. A comforting thought, but regardless of how you label it, I still can't make supper if the cupboard's empty. Can't ignore the hunger, but there's only so much you can do with an old can of beans and a half-eaten jar of pickles.
Undoubtedly, someone out there could turn this combo into something special, but I'm stuck without a can opener, so it's just pickles for now. This "creative slowdown" feels more like a "creative famine". Time to restock. It's no wonder all the great artists went crazy at some point in their careers. It's hard to satisfy the hunger when there's nothing on the shelf.
