"Any of these chances might have kept us apart. But, for a Christian, there are, strictly speaking, no chances. A secret Master of the Ceremonies has been at work." - C.S. Lewis

Life can throw you some pretty wild pitches. It doesn't mean you have to swing at them, but it sort of makes you wonder how much has already been laid out for you and how much, if any, is just good timing.

I believe everything happens for a reason, and while I will never understand the driving force behind those reasons, more often than not, when I look back on circumstances that I've faced, all the pieces seem to have fallen into the right places. Some good, some bad, but always as it should be.

The hard part is waiting for the right time to look back. If you look back too soon, you'll see nothing but the trials and heartache of what seemed like a hopeless stretch of road. You'll also miss out on what's waiting for you around the next turn; an opportunity, a warm smile, friendships and laughter, or better yet, one of those unexplainable, serendipitous moments that turns your world upside down and reassures you that God makes no mistakes.

Day 206 {Part of Me} - Camera Eye

My camera is a very important part of me, allowing me to tell my story the way I see it.

Picture
Day 207 {Clever} - Stay Hydrated

The hot temps stuck around for another day but luckily the humidity dropped so our evening softball game wasn't too unbearable. Still pretty toasty out there for these little gamers.

Picture
Day 208 {Pleasant} - Penguin Diver

Enjoyed a pleasant morning at the zoo with my kiddos. Penguins are always one of our favorites.

Picture
Day 209 {Forever} - Infini-Tea

"But the world can spin so madly, And love can hurt so badly, And stories end so sadly, But this is not the end..." -Katie Herzig

Picture
Day 210 {Generous} - Popcorn Before Bed

Just scored some major Mom points with the kids.

Picture
Day 211 {Old School} - Kickin' It Old School

Back in school we used to dream about this everyday... Could it really happen? Or do dreams fade away?

Day 212 {Less} - Less is More...

More or less

Crickets and cicadas, easily my two favorite sounds of summer. Just like fireflies and candles on the deck light up my summer nights, when I hear the song of the cicadas, I know it's going to be a great day. And to fall asleep to the sound of crickets outside my window is something I dream about all winter.

When I was little, I thought the hum of the cicadas were mysterious little sirens in the trees. They still remind me of that. My kids even know how much I love them; some days they'll stop what they're doing and say, "Listen Mom, your favorite sound!"

But it never lasts long enough. The warm midnight breezes and staying up way too late; mourning doves and cardinals waking me before my alarm, and the cicada song serenading me while I walk.

Take it all in and save it up. These memories will come in handy in February.
Picture
Day 199 {Documentary} - Victory, At Last!

What a long weekend for my goalieman. The team finally got a win in the 5th and final game of the tourney. At least he ended it on a high note.

Picture
Day 200 {Give} - Not Mine to Give

If only the moon and stars were mine to give...

Picture
Day 201 {Pictures in Pictures} - Photo Collection

Footfalls echo in the memory, Down the passage which we did not take, Towards the door we never opened. -T.S. Eliot

Picture
Day 202 {Oddity} - Last One Standing

"Your eyes are shining, but oh so dim."

Last blossom from the hanging pot that I failed to water last week. Thank goodness I'm so much better at taking care of humans and animals □

Picture
Day 203 {Face} - Mirror of the Mind

"The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart."

-St. Jerome

Picture
Day 204 {Free Choice} - As Night Falls...
Picture
Day 205 {Kismet} - As Luck would Have It

His first ever lacrosse camp over-nighter and the day session got rained out. At least he still got to experience UW-Whitewater dorm life and dining hall shenanigans.

Progress! After 3 months of neck and back pain, I'm finally seeing signs of healing. In fact, I've made it a full week without dislocating a rib. And as funny as that sounds, trust me, it's significant progress. Just ask my incredibly patient chiropractor who has been piecing me back together twice a week since April.

I'm so impatient when it comes to recovery time and that probably hasn't helped much over the last 3 months. Every time I feel like things are getting back to normal, I push it a little too far and end up back on the DL.

So as much as I would love to shoot hoops or play a little backyard baseball, I think I'll listen to the voice in my helmet and give it a little more time. Hopefully summer will wait for me.
Picture
Day 192 {Organized} - Taking Charge

Proud of this goalie who took charge of a team of inexperienced players this weekend and came through it with his head held high, despite their last place finish. This weekend could've ruined him, but instead, he used it as an opportunity to step up, take charge and show the lax world what he's made of.

Picture
Day 193 {Pretty} - Uniform Malfunction

A windy evening on the ball field sent a few hats flying.

Picture
Day 194 {Family} - Busy Hands

Keeping her occupied while I try to quickly prepare supper after a late softball practice.

Picture
Day 195 {Sweet} - a la mode

Because a brownie without ice cream is like a kiss without a hug.

Picture
Day 196 {Simple} - Simple Sunset

The sun sets behind Marquette's Valley Field as the Amplify Lacrosse teams prep for their tourney weekend in the Dells.

Picture
Day 197 {From Where I Stand} - A Better Door...

That time at the lacrosse tournament when I was trying to take photos and this little creature kept jumping in front of my camera.

Picture
Day 198 {Want} - You Gotta Want It...

and he does.

There are aspects of life that you really shouldn't have to over-think. They should just happen naturally, like breathing, blinking, walking. Life is full of other challenges that require more thought, we shouldn't have to stress over the basics.

Apparently my already, overly self-conscious, brain feels differently about that, so let me introduce you to yet another small chunk of crazy that dwells in the dark corners of my mind.

I try to exercise everyday, and since my neck injury in April, walking has been the only physical activity that I've been able to do with relatively little pain. It's relaxing, and it gets me away from the computer and out of the house, all good things.

Normally I just do a quick warm-up, put on my headphones to drown out the daily static and I'm off. Not the case this week. After some concern about my feet and hips and how that might tie in to my neck problems, I'm suddenly aware of every step I'm taking; making sure I'm not over-striding, noticing what part of my foot hits the ground first, what toes I'm pushing off with, the tightness in my ankle, the slight ache in my knee, the sway of my hips...

Are you kidding me? I just want to work up a good sweat and forget the world for an hour.

At one point I actually tripped because I was concentrating on how my shoe laces were tickling the tops of my feet. I would've called it quits right then, but I still had a mile to go.

So there you go, a quick glimpse into my daft mind. Hopefully next week I'll be able to walk without psychoanalyzing my every breath. No promises though, this can of worms has been opened.
Picture
Day 185 {Few} - Three's Company

Starting to get a few tomatoes on the vine. Hoping for a good harvest this year. Just have to keep the critters away.

Picture
Day 186 {Red, White & Blue} - American Classics

Stood behind a Korean War vet at the parade today who stood up and saluted the flags as these classics drove past. Actually brought tears to my eyes.

Picture
Day 187 {Home} - The Secret Garden

"The afternoon was dragging towards its mellow hour. The sun was deepening the gold of its lances, the bees were going home and the birds were flying past less often."

Picture
Day 188 {Jump} - A Good Jump

My speedy little base runner getting a good jump off second.

Picture
Day 189 {Begins with T} - Tea Therapy

I'll toast to that!

Picture
Day 190 {Many} - How Many is Too Many?

When you have to ask, it's probably too many.

Picture
Day 191 {My Night} - Firefly Hopes

Like a child we play chase, in the hopes of capturing just one. At last I scoop one out of the shadowy sky. I screw the top on the jar, holding it tight with both hands. Then I watch as the light fades and goes out and I'm forced to set it free again, leaving me alone in the darkness - a thousand flickering lights above my head, but not enough to light the way home.

Half way through 2016. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to slow it down. Not even a little. I wake up early to catch the sun peeking through the trees in the back yard and I go to bed late so I can say good night to the fireflies and watch the moon rise over those same treetops.

Saturday night, after watching the fireworks in my hometown, my family wanted to stay at mom and dad's for a backyard camp out. With an achy back and a lack of sleep for several nights in a row, I decided to drive home to sleep in my own bed, in a quiet house.

It was late, but I needed that long drive. I could see for miles from up on a hill. A breathtaking view silhouetted on a backdrop of dark blue. Just a sliver moon and one lonely star glowing in the southwest sky. One of those nights you could drive for hours, never go home. Because tomorrow it starts all over, the routine, that is.

It would be a dream to sit up on one of those distant rooftops, to look out over the city lights. No where to be, just on pause for a moment. If only summer could last all year.
Picture
Day 178 {Hello} - Hello (From the Other Side)

Does this pollen make my hips look big?

Picture
Day 179 {Helpful} - Tea and Muscle Relaxers

A helpful duo.

Picture
Day 180 {Night Shot} - Quiet Night

"Words mean more at night, like a song...and did you ever notice the way light means more than it did all day long?" Candles and music on the deck. A quiet night, all to myself.

Picture
Day 181 {Indulgent} - Fresh Baked

You had me at "chocolate chip".

Picture
Day 182 {Begins with N} - Night Lax

Playing under the lights, in the rain.

Picture
Day 183 {Me} - Healing Process

So much needs fixing, hard to know where to begin. You can tape your troubles, but that is only a temporary solution. Eventually you have to peel off the bandage and deal with what's hiding beneath.

Day 184 {Bright} - All Those Pretty Lights...

"Trapped in a metaphor, Hoping for something more" -Andrew Belle
