Now the only decision I need to make is what pies to bake for Christmas...
Thanksgiving has come and gone. The decorations have been packed away, the leftovers have been eaten and the calories are still waiting to be burned off. Ironic that the biggest feasts of the year, (at least in my world), all occur within weeks of each other, just as our weather gets cold. I guess my options are to either eat less or brave the elements (or the treadmill), and since eating less doesn't really sound like too much fun, I suppose I'll have to put on my game-face and keep logging the miles. Now the only decision I need to make is what pies to bake for Christmas...

I'm in the home stretch for this year's Photo-of-the-Day project; 6 weeks left, which means only about a month until Christmas, yikes! What a great week this was! (Aside from the fact that that I pulled muscles in my lower back Sunday morning, and the Green Bay Packers got spanked later that day...) the weather was still mild and gorgeous, which put a huge smile on my face. Until Saturday, that is, when we woke to a blanket of snow and freezing temps, a 30 degree swing! I'm ok with the cooler temps as we approach Thanksgiving week, I'd just prefer a more gradual transition. It felt like I fell sleep in South Carolina and woke up in Alaska. Maybe it's just Wisconsin, but personally I think Mother Nature has a strange sense of humor. Despite what the calendar says, I'm not ready to call it quits on my outdoor adventures. I dug out my cold gear this weekend, but I'll have to wait for the 30 mph winds to calm down before I venture out. After all, I'm not that crazy, but I will have to find a way to burn off all the Thanksgiving calories that I'll be packing on this week. Am I the only one having strange dreams lately? I have enough trouble sleeping as it is, the last thing I need, when I finally do fall asleep, is to dream about sliding down the side of a mountain, in the dark, unable to get a foothold, or being locked out of my house, in my pajamas, trying to find a neighbor to help me break in. What gives? I guess I can blame it on the phase of the moon, or perhaps the double-dark chocolate brownie I ate an hour before bed. Whatever the reason, things are getting weird. Sleep really shouldn't be so exhausting. And then I'm always up, wide awake, at 3 a.m., 2 hours before my alarm. I usually sit looking out the window for a while, watching the stars and wondering how many other sleep-deprived crazies are doing the same thing. Then it's back to bed for 2 hours before my day officially begins. I can't explain it. I just deal with it. Goodbye miserable October, hello lovely November. So far your temperatures have been mild and your sunsets have been amazing...keep up the good work! I'll take every 50+ degree day I can, it will be a long time before we see that number on the thermometer again. I say the same thing every year as we transition from flip flops to fleece: if only winter could pass as quickly as summer. |
