Project 366 {WEEK 21}

My week started with another rib out of place in my back. I already knew it on Saturday night. Something just wasn't feeling right. I didn't do anything unusual this time, maybe just an awkward twist, but I guess that's all it takes lately.

Some days I feel like I'm literally falling apart at the seams.

I came across this quote the other day and it made me smile, as it seemed so timely:

"Hearts are Wild Creatures, That's Why Our Ribs are Cages"

Perhaps my cage isn't strong enough to contain my heart...

Day 143 {Classic} - Classic Moment

Sitting on Papa's lap doing math homework.

Picture
Day 144 {Out of Place} - Slipped Rib

I laughed when I saw that today's 365 theme was "Out of Place", because I had yet another rib out of whack today. Thankfully I was able to get in to the chiro and he gently continued to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Also got my back taped up to hold things in place for a couple days.

Day 145 {I Love} - Fountain Music
Picture
Day 146 {Observation} - Quiet Observations

This little one spent Tuesday and Wednesday home sick from school. I knew she was finally starting to feel better when all the board games came out and new rules were set in place for her Candyland characters.

Picture
Day 147 {Silly} - Silliness

Nothing but silliness when these two get together. They decided to use this blanket to toss shoes into the air and try to catch them. A good way to pass the time at their big brothers' practice.

Picture
Day 148 {Wander} - Prone to Wanter

Toe the line? No thanks, I'll go where my heart leads me. It wants what it wants.

Picture
Day 149 {Begins with L} - Lucky Landing

This whirly landed right in my hand today during my walk. Totally caught me by surprise. I think I'll take it home and plant it.

One of the drawbacks of having a creative mind is that you tend to "live in your head" instead of in the real world. While this can sometimes be a good thing, providing an endless supply of inspiration, and in my case, keeping me from saying or doing something stupid, it can also be a tremendous burden and source of stress.

By fabricating an imaginary world that only exists in your mind, you start to shy away from real life situations and as a result, distance yourself from friends and relationships that play an important roll in defining who you are.

A creative mind is truly a blessing and a curse. Living with a creative heart is like dreaming in color. You see the world in a different light, able to sense things others can't, able to feel things that others are numb to. But sometimes those dreams and sensations can become a little too intense and if you don't have an escape route, a way of getting them out of your head, they can start to poison you.

I've been struggling to find my escape lately.

When I was young, I would write and draw all the time. When I didn't have a pencil in my hand, I was slamming a tennis ball against the side of dad's workshop, shooting free throws, swimming laps in the pool or as I got older, escaping into the darkroom to experiment with photo techniques.

I don't have many escape routes these days. Most paths are blocked by mountains of laundry and rivers of dishes. The neighbors would laugh to see a grown woman hit tennis balls off the garage door and my days of hiding in the darkroom are long gone. So the static just keeps getting louder.

I guess for now, I'll just turn up the music in my headphones and keep looking for my next move.

Day 136 {From Where I Stand} - Goalie Love

Getting a little goalie love after an awesome 11-3 victory.

Picture
Day 137 {Urban} - Urban Sprawl

Signs of life in our ever-increasingly paved world.

Picture
Day 138 {Critters} Dusk Flyover

Enjoyed a beautiful sunset at the High School lacrosse game last night. A great night for a 10-9 overtime victory for the home team!

Day 139 {Kids} - Sticks Up

Day 140 {Beautiful} - Beautiful Lily
Picture
Day 141 {Free Choice} - Fun Run

Today was the highly anticipated school Fun Run. I think the smile here says it all.

Day 142 {Waiting} - The Waiting Game

A typical scene on tournament weekends. Waiting between lacrosse games. Happy to report that our team went 4-0 this weekend!

We walk a tightrope and assume there's a safety net stretched out below us. We're told not to look down, not to look back, to keep our head up, eyes focused on the future. There's no room for mistakes, no time for hesitation and rare opportunities for second chances.

What if we mess up? How far can we fall before the safety net catches us?

I've always been one to look down, despite what we're taught, so I know the net's there. Still, I can't help feeling anxious and self-conscious. Sometimes I wonder how I've made it THIS far, spending most of my time replaying moments in my head, wondering if I should've said or done something differently. Looking ahead just leads to more anxiety.

It's funny how the world works, a recent series of events, prompted by a neck injury, forced me out of this comfort zone. Now, instead of my comfortable shoe-gazing, no eye-contact lifestyle, I'm forced to keep my head up, shoulders back and eyes where everyone can see them. It's either that, or live with excruciating neck pain...a real toss up, I know, but also a complete nightmare for someone as socially inept as I am.

The only relief I find is when I get to hide behind my camera. So that's what I'll do for now.
Picture
Day 129 {Mom} - Go Fish, Nana

Generations of love were celebrated today.

Picture
Day 130 {Play} - When I was a Child

...I loved playing baseball with all the boys in the neighborhood. I got such a thrill out of watching their faces when I would crush a line-drive over their heads or back-hand a ground ball and throw them out at 1st base. My daddy raised a proper Tom Boy!

Picture
Day 131 {Sharp} - Grated

Made a little sweet potato hash tonight and managed to do so without Julienning my fingers. Progress.

Picture
Day 132 {Begins with H} - Hosta Hydration
Picture
Day 133 {Macro} - My Marigold

My Mother's Day gift from my sweet girl was a homemade clay pot with a marigold seedling. My challenge now is to try to keep it alive long enough to see it flower.

Picture
Day 134 {Fun} - Innocent Imagination

There's something to be said about a child with a vivid imagination. For those of you with kids, you know just how quickly they grow up and how playing "Civil War" in the rain will soon be a thing of the past. So for now, I'm enjoying every second of his childhood innocence. Why does it have to go so fast? Next year at this time he will laugh at the thought of dressing up as a soldier and setting up camp in the rain. He'll be embarrassed of this photo and beg me to delete it from my collection. But I'll never do that, because this is who he is and these are the fun moments that every child needs to remember.

Picture
Day 135 {Subtle} - Subtle Changes

Watching him slowly mature in both skill and attitude.
