The beauty of nostalgia is that it's a photograph in your mind of an actual experience. It's a fraction of time that you have somehow managed to capture and archive, waiting to be relived at any given moment.
It's time to make some memories.
Nostalgia is a stealthy animal. It sits hidden away until something lures it out. Music is a big one for me. And smells. Smells can trigger so many vivid memories. Popcorn reminds me of the drive-in theater and dad's old Volkswagen hatchback. Cinnamon comforts me like mom's sick-day cinnamon toast. And sautéed onions and garlic…I close my eyes and I swear I'm standing in my grandparents' kitchen. The beauty of nostalgia is that it's a photograph in your mind of an actual experience. It's a fraction of time that you have somehow managed to capture and archive, waiting to be relived at any given moment. It's time to make some memories.

Guess who won the "Stupid Award" this week? I may have jumped the gun slightly last week when I said that my rib was "holding steady." Apparently lifting heavy, awkward objects out of tight spaces in the basement is not part of the healing process. Before I could even finish the thought, "I probably shouldn't be doing this..." I felt the pop. Just a quick 6 month update on my Humpty Dumpty Saga: Ribs seem to be holding steady for the moment...[pause for applause]...and I had my 5th traction treatment this week which seems to be helping the disc in my neck, despite a few zingers that I still experience every so often. We're now moving on to the beast that is my decades-old shoulder injury. Hopefully with some more butt-kicking PT and continued strength training I can get my wing back into working order. It's not going to be easy to undo all that's been done, but I'll get there eventually. Hello October. You've been ugly and rainy so far and I'm already sick of you. So you can either shape up or get lost. Because all the Pumpkin spice cupcakes and Chai lattes in the world couldn't sweeten the bitterness of a cold, rainy Wisconsin week. I just have to remind myself that every day of cold and yucky is one day closer to summer. #optimist |
