Yes, I realize it's only the first week of fall, perhaps I'm getting a little ahead of myself. We did get a special weather treat this week, upper 80's and sunshine ALL week. Take that, calendar! My afternoon walks were so relaxing; I felt like a child as I kicked through the falling leaves and listened to the cicadas still singing in the trees. If only I could hold on to these moments just a little longer. I guess fall isn't all that bad. It just gets a bum rap because it marks the end of my precious summer. But after this week, I'm willing to give it second chance. Don't let me down.
It's no secret that I'm not a fan of fall and winter. I'm a warm weather girl, plain and simple. But every year, no matter how hard I try to fight it, short days and cold fingers always win. I shouldn't need a space heater in my bathroom or flannel sheets on my bed. And I certainly shouldn't have to wrap in a blanket just to sit at my computer and work. I'm convinced that I was mistakenly born in Wisconsin, someone obviously mixed up the paperwork. Yes, I realize it's only the first week of fall, perhaps I'm getting a little ahead of myself. The weather couldn't be more perfect! After a couple weeks of cool daytime temps and cold nights, we're finally getting the summer we've been waiting for...in September. And next week is looking even better! That's good news for this girl...keeps the chill off this old spine. I'll take all the help I can get from Mother Nature. ...My two cents is that I sense this is not going to be too big of a challenge. I always find myself laughing at the funny things I hear people say, and sometimes at things I hear myself say. This has become such a common occurrence that I decided to start a "Quote of the Day" list, where I jot down the lines that stand out from rest. For example, "Can we go straight home? I have plans with the hotdog man!" Wait, what?? Or the classic, "Hey, don't lick my shoe!" And who can forget about everybody's favorite, "Now I can finally eat things with my mouth." I wish I would've started this sooner, because there have been some doozies over the years that I have long since forgotten. Who needs TV for entertainment when you have kids? Day 231 {Partial} - Objects In Mirror While stuck in a 1 hour traffic jam in Chicago, after 12 hours on the road, I decided to get creative with my camera. That's our van in the semi's mirror. We were driving home from the Finger Lakes area of New York and had no real traffic issues until this point. It turned out to be a fatal crash that closed all lanes of the freeway south of O'Hare. All traffic had to be merged onto the shoulder. It felt so good to finally pull into our driveway last night after 14 hours on the road. |
